PostSubject: Action vs Dodgytion   Sat Jan 17, 2015 5:29 pm

Hey B,

Quick question regarding action and certain guitars if you don't mind as want another opinion.

I was looking a guitar recently which looked my sort of thing:

However there is a clear issue with the action not being to my liking, nor low enough (far too high, need it low) and I noted it has one of those sit-on top bridge designs (the damn bridge cannot go humanly lower than body).  I am confident from experience (had similar one before) that there is going to be no way to get the damn thing low enough without routing the body of the guitar out to fit the bridge lower like most Floyd Roses, which is obviously a messy pain in the botox, thus not worth buying. Not sure why it's fitted with a Floyd Rose either as you cannot pull up on the whammy bar much with this 'tarded setup.

So my questions;

1) Do you agree with my conclusion about it not being possible to get it low enough easily.
2) Is this just a cheapo/cheap-er guitar issue to look out for, or something to be more aware of in general?
3) Any other way around it I'm unaware of?

Feedback appreciated. Thanks.
J.

Gaia,

As far as i'm aware these bridges are only designed to bend downward for naughty "dive bombing" etc.

You could take the grub screws out and machine the heads so that the notched sections are closer to the top but you're only going to gain a couple of mm if that.

I agree that this is a cheaper system. Have you tried adjusting the truss rod in the neck?

The truss rod may be over tightened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truss_rod

The only other way round this would be to route the body i'm afraid.

Thanks for that Ben. I shall have to investigate.
