| When I first heard about Winds being an atypical (that is, electronic) album, I was really looking forward to its release. I have an often subconscious desire for the genre that I normally leave unfulfilled for some peculiar reason. But when I find what I'm looking for, I am in "Heaven" Now that I've been listening to Winds, I feel that it needs a thread. What I enjoy most about Winds is that, to me, it doesn't stray far from the Orbethian feel of other albums. Granted, the typical metal Orbeth albums have their electronic elements no doubt, but the change in genre is nonetheless drastic. But again, this does not disqualify Winds from sounding very Orbethian, or at least what I consider to be Orbethian. The album immersive in soothing melodies; nothing "over the top" or too progressive, you could say. Don't get me wrong, I love progressive, but it's nice to listen to something once in a while that aims to please and not totally blow your socks off (While I'm sure Ben would love nothing more than our socks to be blown, I don't think he wasn't aiming for something progressive so much as something "out there and pleasing"). Anyway, overall a very pleasing album. My personal favorites include Liquid Air, Edna Rain, Flysurfing, Act Now....... Think Later...., Hills, and ALL of the classics. I guess that's another reason I enjoy this album; I really have always enjoyed the original Orbethian trance/electronic songs. Their melodies are filled with a little nostalgia for myself personally, and are of general compositional and aesthetic quality. Props to Ben for taking the time to do this album amidst everything else going on in his world. Can't thank the man enough, in my opinion. He's really brought us something we'll remember for a long time, just like he always does. Anyone wanna share their thoughts on it, critically or otherwise? | |

To please was definitely the aim Eisen! I'm really glad you dig it! Thanks a whole heap for your initial thoughts! Interestingly I REALLY like Winds for its simplicity. Like you mention nothing over the top, just straight to the point. Hell some of it i have no idea where it came from Thanks again Eisen!

| Ben. As a writer, which song on Winds was your favorite to write?; What about your favorite as a listener, if those two favorites are different? | |

hmmmmm thats a good question. I would have to say for the writing process that track 'Beyond Linear' would be my fave. This track was originally called 'Scalar Pulse' and was a demo for an industrial project that myself and Clif were looking at doing. It was definitely the most technically challenging I feel. As a listener i would have to say Either 'Ozone' or 'Green' its tough to choose. 'Green' of course as its the wife singing.........*Shelley is watching me type this*

| Shoutout to Shelley for her contributions to the album!
I definitely concur with Ozone being among my top favorite tracks off Winds.
Interesting that you say Beyond Linear was the most technically challenging. Though if it was a demo for industrial stuff, I can see why it might have taken some refining, as you haven't delved into that genre as much as others.
Thanks for the answer, Ben.

| Had Winds playing in the car today and my mother was bobbing her head along to it, which says quite a bit considering she is of the 50's 60's and 70's music. | |
